I believe my Thornton family tree originated in the parish of Edlingham, Northumberland, United Kingdom. In 1771, Philip and his wife Ann were married in Alnwick, then lived at Edlingham in Northumberland. Their son William fathered six children, all born in the parish of Felton, Northumberland. Thomas, born 1815, may have married a Drysdale from Rothbury, then he moved to London where he established a very successful business named Thornton & Pope, Hop Merchants, at No.1 & 3 St.Thomas's Street. Thomas had seven children, all born in London, initially St.Georges Borough, Surrey and later Marylebone, Middlesex. At some stage his brother Philip, born 1804, a Surgeon and a GP, joined him in London. Robert b1802 and his brother William born 1806 were both butchers of Felton. My great grandfather was Henry, born 1854 in Nile Street, North Shields. I don't know who he married, I believe his second? wife was Susan Waddell. His five sons were born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.
